The Turkish government said new tests showed that a child who died last week had succumbed to avian influenza, and that two more people had tested positive for the H5N1 strain of the virus, bringing to 15 the number of Turks being treated for the disease. The new patients, from the southeastern provinces of Siirt and Sanliurfa, are in a stable condition, a statement by the health ministry's crisis center said. The latest H5N1 death to be confirmed was that of 11-year-old Hulya Kocyigit, from the eastern town of Dogubeyazit, who died on January 6 in a hospital in the nearby city of Van shortly after her two siblings, aged 14 and 15, died of the disease.
