News - Viet Nam reports no new H5N1 type A in humans

Ha Noi, Dec. 1 (VNA) - Viet Nam has detected no new human infections of the H5N1 type A virus despite the wide spread of bird flu, reported the National Steering Committee on the Control of Respiratory Diseases on Nov. 30.

At the committee's regular working session, Nguyen Duc Hien, Director of the Institute of Clinical Research for Tropical Diseases, said his institute received 5-10 patients every day, some of them with serious pneumonia. However, he said, most of these cases have tested negative for H5N1 type A virus.

The committee has organised training courses for medical workers at the provincial level and completed a project on preventing bird flu on humans in cooperation with the World Health Organisation. It has also worked out an emergency assistance project for early detection and timely treatment of suspected flu cases at the community level with funds from the German Government.-Enditem
