News - Second avian flu discovery "no risk to food safety"

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency announced Tuesday that avian flu has been discovered on a second Fraser Valley duck farm -- but said there's no reason to fear another bird flu epidemic like the one a year ago.

"The second finding does not indicate a worsening situation and poses no new risk to food safety or human health," Cornelius Kiley, a veterinarian with the CFIA, said at a news conference.

On Friday, CFIA authorities began culling more than 67,000 birds at the Fraser Valley Duck and Goose Farm in Chilliwack after a single duck tested positive for the H5 strain of bird flu.
